Jim Lang is an award winning composer in the film and television world, having strengthened many projects through his diverse musical palette. He is most recognized for his theme music, original songs, and score for Nickelodeon‘s hit animated series Hey Arnold!, which has aired in over 70 markets worldwide. Jim also scored Hey Arnold: The Movie, and Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, both of which feature updates to his iconic themes from the television series.
Jim has three recently completed animated projects streaming right now, Natasha Kline’s “Primos,” which airs on Disney+, “Not A Box” based on Antoinette Portis” best selling childrens book, which appears on Apple and “Weather Hunters,” Al Roker’s weather science spectacular on PBS Kids.
His numerous record credits include a series of collaborations with Eels writer and producer Mark “E” Everett. Eels albums Blinking Lights, as well as Electro-Shock Blues, and Daisies of the Galaxy feature songs by E and Lang, and string and horn arrangements written and conducted by Lang.
Jim was born and raised just outside Kansas City, Missouri. Although largely self-taught, he studied music briefly at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City. In his early career, he served a three year stint as composer and musical director of the Goodman Theater’s Free Street Theater Project, and moved to Los Angeles to play with Todd Rundgren. He subsequently toured with several other acts, including Joe Cocker and the Pointer Sisters.
Jim now divides his time between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. He has a daughter and a son by his first marriage. His son, Garret, is an up and coming Los Angeles bass player and can be heard on Jim’s scores.
